Hortense Ward Scholarship Information & Application
The Hortense Ward Scholarship is presented annually by the Houston Heights Woman's Club to a female law school student in their second or third year. The recipient should exemplify the qualities of public service and commitment to social causes, especially those involving women. Candidates are asked to provide a brief statement describing their involvement in these initiatives and how they plan to continue this involvement in their legal career.
In 2025, the Houston Heights Woman's Club will offer one scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to a female student pursuing a degree from TSU Thurgood Marshall School of Law, enrolled during the 2024-2025 academic year.
The recipient will be selected based on:
- Educational path
- Vocation or occupational goals
- Service and commitment to social and/or civic activities
The scholarship may be used for school or living expenses.
The scholarship will be presented to the recipient in one installment during the Houston Heights Woman's Club Founders Day reception. The reception will be held at the HHWC Clubhouse, located at 1846 Harvard Street, Houston, TX 77008 on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The recipient will be notified by email or phone by Thursday, February 27, 2025. Houston Heights Woman's Club will contact the recipient only. We are unable to contact each applicant regarding the status of their application.
In addition to completing the below application, applicants may opt to include up to three attachments with their application. Accepted documents include a resume and up to two letters of reference. Additional documents will not be considered.
