Join us as we welcome special guest speaker Kevin Prufer, Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at The University of Houston. He plans to discuss his love of poetry as an element of craft, writing it and reading it. He will bring some examples. Kevin is a published author and he and his wife live in the Heights. He is excited to meet our group.
He is the author of many books of poetry, including, most recently, “The Fears" (2023), “The Art of Fiction” (2021), and “How He Loved Them” (2018), which was longlisted for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize and received the Julie Suk Award. He is the recipient of several Pushcart prizes and Best American Poetry Selections, numerous awards from the Poetry Society of America, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Lannan Foundation. He has earned spots on best-of-the-year lists from The New York Times, Publishers Weekly, and Booklist. His debut novel, Sleepaway, an intriguing, apocalyptic narrative, was published this year.

About us:
The Creativity Group meets on the 3rd Monday of each month. We are a group of members who have created a space to appreciate and explore all types of creative expression. We provide an audience for each other’s creativity.
Our monthly meetings will be held at the Clubhouse with guest speaker “expert” talks, group projects and feedback on our writers’ written work. Additionally, members take turns planning creative excursions in the community such as classes, art, film, music, theater, crafts, museums, cooking, and poetry. While several of us are writers, all of us share the desire to pursue and explore all sorts of creative expression.
