Founders Day Reception and Presentation of the Hortense Ward Scholarship

The Houston Heights Woman's Club warmly invites you to our annual Founders Day Reception, featuring the presentation of the Hortense Ward Scholarship, first awarded in 2007.

Light refreshments will be served starting at 1:30 PM, with this cherished event honoring both our history and our continued commitment to the next generation, commencing at 2:00 PM.

Event Focus: Meet our scholarship recipient, a dedicated student at South Texas College of Law Houston.

Guest Speaker: We are also delighted to welcome J. Cherise Story, Vice President of Voter Services with the League of Women Voters of Houston. Ms. Story’s presentation will explore the historical and ongoing barriers women have faced in securing and exercising the right to vote, from the suffrage movement to present-day challenges,

The Hortense Ward Scholarship is presented annually by the Houston Heights Woman's Club to a second- or third-year law school student. The recipient should exemplify the qualities of public service and commitment to social causes, especially those involving women. Candidates are asked to provide a brief statement describing their involvement in these initiatives and how they plan to continue this involvement in their legal careers.  Read more about the life and career of Hortense Ward.
