Program: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we will welcome Yvonamor Palix, art gallery owner and long time curator of Hispanic art. She will give us an exciting talk on Mexico's Baroque Period and its continued influence in the arts. We will also hear from Rochelle Gomes, a very talented singer, who will share some of her favorite songs with us from her home country of Brazil.

Community Outreach

Members are invited to bring a bag of Halloween candy which will be used to prepare treat bags for students participating in the Communities in Schools (CIS) program for at risk students at Heights High School.

For those who wish to remain a few minutes extra and participate, the outreach candy will be bagged immediately following luncheon.

Potluck Lunch - Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert.

Witches Hat Contest: Get into the Halloween spirit early! Show off your creative or festive side by wearing a witch's hat to participate in our optional contest.

Please join us for our quarterly General Meeting. This is your essential opportunity to get important Club updates in person.

Program: Sort it Out: Let's Get Recycling Right! At our quarterly general meeting, we welcome Erin Livingston, Principal Planner at the Houston-Galveston Area Council and all-around expert on recyclables in our area. What goes in your green bin? What doesn't? Why does it matter? Does that stuff really get recycled? How does Houston compare to other cities? What's that new fee on your water bill? Just how grim is the outlook for our trash situation?

Community Outreach: Attendees are invited to bring Halloween candy, which will be distributed from the clubhouse porch to neighborhood trick-or-treaters on October 31st during our annual Halloween Porch Party!

Details: Arrive at 1:30pm for drinks, light bites, and socializing. The meeting will start at 2:00pm.

Continuing our cultural exploration during Hispanic Heritage Month, on October 14th we will visit the Museum of Fine Arts to view the Latino and Latin American Art Exhibit featuring both modern and contemporary art in all media, from Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Latino artists in the United States.

Event Details

Registration Deadline: Sunday, October 11 at 5:00 PM. Advance online payment is required by this deadline to reserve your tour slot. Please note that we will not be able to accept in-person payments on the day of the tour.
Cost: $30 per person (applies to both MFAH members and non-members; price includes the online payment service fee)
Dress Code: Please wear your fabulous HHWC t-shirts!

Literary Group - AM Session

Project Hail Mary is an addictive, high-stakes science fiction adventure that follows Ryland Grace, a middle-school science teacher who wakes up from a coma with total amnesia on a spaceship, only to discover he is humanity’s sole hope for survival against a sun-eating alien microbe called Astrophage. 2nd Annual Halloween Porch Party (Saturday, October 31, 2026)

Not seeing a lot of trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood? We have the solution!

Get ready for some spooky fun! We're hosting our second annual Halloween candy giveaway at the clubhouse for all the neighborhood kids. This is your last chance to show off your Witches Luncheon costume before it goes into hibernation for next year!

Witch attendees are welcome to bring snacks and spooky potions to keep ghoulish spirits high. Come join us!

Members will be asked to bring a bag of candy to the October 11 General Meeting for this party. Porch witches may register one additional guest and also bring added treats for distribution on Halloween.

Party duration: 5:30PM to 8PM, unless the candy runs out first!

Community Outreach: Holiday Wish List

We will be in need of volunteers to help host the CIS® Holiday party at Height's High School in December (date TBD) as well as in need of club members to graciously shop, buy and prepare a holiday Wish List gift bag for one (or more) of the 100+ CIS students enrolled in the program this year. In 2024 the HHWC generously shopped for 79 student gifts and last year nearly 100 students were gifted some seasonal cheer from our generous members.

Holiday Potluck Luncheon: Roast turkey will be provided as the main course. Please bring your favorite side or dessert to complement the meal.

Program: A Season of Giving!

In December we will again focus on gratitude and giving. We will hear from the Catholic Charities Guild and what they do to help families here in Houston. If you are able, please bring a small item that they can take to their resale shop to support this worthy cause. Ideas for items may include earrings, your second favorite Christmas sweater, a nice plate or set of glasses, small home decor, anything a shopper would want to give as a gift to herself or another!

Community Outreach: Volunteer Call: CIS Holiday Party!

We will need volunteers for the CIS Holiday Party. The actual date has not been set. In the past we have met at the Heights High School front office at 11:00 AM to help set up, host, and clean up. The event generall wraps up by 1:30 PM. This is an excellent opportuntiy for some heartfelt hands on participation. The students very much appreciate the event and it is quite nice to see their reactions to the gift bags club members have provided. Crafting for a Cause: Help us decorate lunch bags for Kids’ Meals, Inc. We provide the bags and basic supplies—feel free to bring your own favorite markers or stickers or any other special supplies you would like to use to brighten a child's day!

What to Bring:

Yourself and any games you’d like to share or additional crafting supplies you would like to use.
Your own snacks and beverages.

Good to Know:

No formal lessons: While we don't have teachers on-site, we can help you find your footing or point you toward local instructors.
Please register in advance: Your RSVP helps us ensure we have enough seating and craft supplies for everyone!
Members may bring one guest: Guests are signed up at time of event enrollment on line.
